Correspondence relating to driver recruitment, driver personnel matters, uniforms and insignia, awards and tributes to drivers, casualties, public relations, fund raising, sections taken over and individuals transferred to the United States Army Ambulance Service in 1917, and miscellaneous and general matters relating to AFS's administration and operations in France during World War I. Correspondents include A. Piatt Andrew, the first Director-General of the AFS; members of the AFS's French headquarters staff; the Reserve Mallet (the French transportation service); and Captain Aujay, who was in charge of the Office des Sections Etrangères, Direction des Service Automobiles, the Magasin Central Automobile, and others. Also, letters and diaries by drivers relating to their experiences in the field, information pamphlets, newsletters, bulletins, recruitment posters, and other printed material, clippings, photographs, reports, financial documents, and awards, insignia, and other memorabilia.
